The Gourd Gathering at Cherokee -- July 28-August 1, 2021
The Cherokee Indian Fair Ground: 545 Tsali Blvd.
 Cherokee, NC 28719
Gourds are vine-growing fruits related to pumpkins, melons, squash, and cucumbers. They occur in temperate, subtropical, and tropical areas around the world, and, like bamboo, are put to a number of uses. Examples of some of the ways gourds are used will be on display during The Gourd Gathering in Cherokee, North Carolina.
The annual event takes place July 28-August 1, at the Cherokee Indian Fair Ground, and features gourd growers, suppliers of gourd-crafting materials, gourd artisans, and gourd-crafting classes.
After an absence of a number of years, Pan-African Arts again will be in the mix with assorted musical instruments and accessories crafted wholly, and in part, from gourds (rattles, xylophones, harps, drums, etc.) as well as teaching two of the various gourd-crafting classes (Make a Gourd Friction Drum and Make a Netted Gourd Rattle) being offered during the event.
